HabitatBrachoria hendrixsoni specimens were collected during the day (11:00, Houston Valley locality) in a forest comprising hemlock, maple, and sycamore trees. Individuals were found beneath layers of decomposing leaf material about 10 m south of Gum Spring Branch. No other xystodesmids were encountered sympatrically at this locality. Note: Individuals of B. hendrixsoni may be confused in the field with Apheloria virginiensis corrugata and Cherokia georgiana latassa due to similarity in color patterns and overlap in distribution.
DistributionBrachoria hendrixsoni occurs in the Blue Ridge Moutains in northeastern Tennessee. It has been recorded from seven localities in northeastern Tennessee, from eastern Cocke County northeast to Sullivan and Johnson counties. The closest known Brachoria species, B. evides, occurs about 21 air km north in the cedars woods of Greeneville, Greene County, Tennessee.
Conservation statusBrachoria hendrixsoni is threatened by habitat loss due to agriculture (especially growing demand for paper products), coal mining, development, and the invasion of exotic species.
