A forest canopy species found on the eastern slopes of the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia. It is a higher altitude species than other Philaethria, flying from 450-1600 m. (Constantino & Salazar, 2010).Characteristics
Distinguished from other Philaethria by the white medial postdiscal band of the ventral hindwing.Geographical races/subspecies
Philaethria ostara ostara (Röber, 1906) - eastern Andes from Colombia to Bolivia.
Philaethria ostara araguensis Constantino & Salazar, 2010 - Cordillera de la Costa in northwestern Venezuela.
Philaethria ostara meridensis Constantino & Salazar, 2010 - Cordillera de Mérida, Venezuela.
