Introduction

This large Philaethriia species is endemic to Caribbean coastal mountain ranges in northern Colombia and Venezuela, where it occurs from 100-1500m.

Characteristics

May be superficially distinguished from other Philaethria by the "terra cotta" inner postdiscal band on the ventral hindwings, large marginal spots and large apical green patch on the forewings.

Philaethria neildi neildi Constantino & Salazar, 2010 - endemic to the Cordillera de Mérida and Cordillera de la Costa in Venezuela

Philaethria neildi tachiraensis Constantino & Salazar, 2010 - endemic to the Sierra El Tamá and Sierra de Perija in western Venezuela

Philaethria neildi winhardi Constantino & Salazar, 2010 - endemic to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in northern Colombia.
