Comments Summary phylogenetic hypothesis of paleognath familial relationships (Cooper et al., 2001; Haddrath and Baker, 2001). The basal family within the ratites appears to be either Rheidae or Dinornithidae. Placement of the extinct Elephantbirds (Aepyornithidae) is unclear.
