Containing group: Rhyzodiastes

Introduction

Rhyzodiastes s. str. is a small subgenus with five species found in eastern and southern Brazil (but not in Amazonia) and in northern Argentina.

Characteristics

The antennal stylet is broad, compressed, and obliquely truncate resembling a chisel blade. There are minor setae in tufts on antennal segments IV-X, V-X, or VI-X. Clypeal setae are present. The eye is crescentic and narrow in most species, but it is broad in R. liratus. The gena has a curved band of pollinosity. The inner carina of the pronotum has a sharply defined lateral margin. The paramedian groove is pollinose and broad, at least half as wide as the outer carina. The marginal groove is broad, sharply defined, pollinose, and clearly visible in dorsal view. Pronotal setae are absent. There is no intercalary stria, and the elytral interval, especially interval III, is costate. Elytral setae are absent. The metasternum has a median sulcus.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
