Introduction
Rhyzodiastes s. str. is a small subgenus with five species found in eastern and southern Brazil (but not in Amazonia) and in northern Argentina.Characteristics
The antennal stylet is broad, compressed, and obliquely truncate resembling a chisel blade. There are minor setae in tufts on antennal segments IV-X, V-X, or VI-X. Clypeal setae are present. The eye is crescentic and narrow in most species, but it is broad in R. liratus. The gena has a curved band of pollinosity. The inner carina of the pronotum has a sharply defined lateral margin. The paramedian groove is pollinose and broad, at least half as wide as the outer carina. The marginal groove is broad, sharply defined, pollinose, and clearly visible in dorsal view. Pronotal setae are absent. There is no intercalary stria, and the elytral interval, especially interval III, is costate. Elytral setae are absent. The metasternum has a median sulcus./rhyzodsstr.gif)
