Kupeus
Kupeus arcuatus
Ross T. BellIntroduction
Kupeus is a genus from New Zealand, with only one species.
Bell and Bell (1978) initially proposed the name Kupea for this genus. This name was, however, preoccupied, so it was changed to Kupeus (Bell and Bell 1982).
Characteristics
The antennal stylet is absent. There are minor setae on antennomeres VI-X, with a remnant on antennomere V in some specimens. The labrum has four setae. The median lobe of the head is linear, and it is closely bordered by straight frontal grooves and straight medial margins of temporal lobes. The orbital groove is absent. The eye is reduced and longer than deep. There is one temporal seta.

The hasal impressions of the pronotum are deep, and each is preceded by a curved discal striole which ends opposite of the middle of the pronotum. The pronotum has an isolated pair of anterior pits, and it has an angular but no lateral seta. The humeral tubercle is present. The hind wings are vestigial. The anterior femur has a ventral tooth in both sexes. The middle and hind tibiae each have two spurs, but the inner one is minute, and it is often lost. The penis is thick, with a well-developed internal sac and a distinct apical lobe.
