This neotropical species was described five different times in the 1770's - perhaps due to its marked sexual dimorphism.Characteristics
Males of this species and C. orites possess a tuft of long androconial scales on the underside of the forewing, which is accompanied by a convex anal forewing margin that is not present in other members of the genus.Other Names for Catonephele acontius described in Papilio
